Joelho de Porco

The Joelho de Porco was a significant music group for the pop/rock scene in Brazil. Mixing components of Tropicália, MPB, and worldwide pop/rock and roll, the music group was a significant reference point for the soon-to-be Brazilian rock and roll movement from the ’80s, the very first commercially practical attempt to generate rock and roll in Brazil. Their ironic and irreverent attitude also was very important to the punk rock and roll of Brazil that strike years afterwards. They left strikes like “Boeing 723897,” “Meus 26 Anos,” “México Lindo” and “Mardito Fiapo de Manga.” In 1973, with a fresh vocalist (Ricardo Petraglia Margutti), the music group documented it’s first one, made by the previous Operating-system Mutantes Arnaldo Baptista, Se Você Vai de Xaxado, European union Vou de Rock and roll ‘N’Roll (Sinter/Phonogram), with “Journey America” in the B-side. With regular adjustments in its lineup, Joelho de Porco documented four LPs; the very first, entitled São Paulo 1554-hoje (1976), was praised with the customized critics. The music group dissolved in 1979, but was regrouped once again in 1983 (with Tico Terpins, Próspero, David Drew Zingg, and Zé Rodrix), documenting the double-LP Saqueando a Cidade. The music group won Television Globo’s Festival dos Festivais (1985) in the very best lyrics category with “A Última Voz perform Brasil.” The music group was definitively dissolved with Terpins’ loss of life by heart stroke in 1998.
