Joe Thomas

An excellent golf swing trumpeter who hardly ever gained much identification except from music artists, Joe Thomas was considered an extremely valuable player within the 1930’s and 40’s. He debuted skillfully with Cecil Scott in 1928 and performed through the entire Midwest with lesser-known groupings led by Darrell Harris, Eli Grain, Shuffle Abernathy and Harold Overflow amongst others. After shifting to NY, Thomas was with Fletcher Henderson’s Orchestra in 1934 before it split up and with the reformed group during 1936-37. He caused Extra fat Waller, Willie Bryant, Benny Carter’s Orchestra (1939-40), Adam P. Johnson, Joe Sullivan and Teddy Wilson’s Sextet (1942-43). Thomas led his very own bands on / off and also used Barney Bigard (1944-45), Cozy Cole (1948) and Bud Freeman (1949). In old age he was using the Fletcher Henderson Reunion Music group in 1957 and caused Claude Hopkins (1966) furthermore to freelancing in to the early 1970’s. Joe Thomas led five four-song saving periods in his profession, one apiece for Onyx (those game titles went unissued before 1970’s), HRS, Keynote (1946), Seeco in 1953 and Atlantic in 1958 (an record distributed to Vic Dickenson).
