Biography

Joe Giardullo is a free of charge jazz reed participant whose improvisations are microtonal, meaning they prominently feature records apart from the twelve towards the octave found in most American music. Like fellow microtonal saxophonist Joe Maneri, Giardullo’s music frequently noises intentionally sparse and uncertain. He released his initial record, Gravity — Music for Innovative Chamber Group, in 1979, but both record and Giardullo vanished into obscurity immediately after. In 1991, nevertheless, Giardullo fulfilled saxophonist Joe McPhee, and both men recorded many albums together, like the duo record Specific Gravity as well as the mournful quartet time Darkness and Light.
