Joaquín Gaztambide

Students of Rubla at Tudela Cathedral, Gaztambide eventually studied piano in the Madrid Conservatory with Albeniz and composition with Carnicer. In 1848 he was appointed the movie director from the Spanish Theater in Madrid where he offered his 1st zarzuela (musical theatre) “La mensajera”. His features brought him the chance to carry out the 1st Spanish creation of Meyerbeer’s opera “Le prophete” as well as the 1st demonstration in Spain of some of Wagner’s music, the overture to “Tannhauser.” “Catalina” was his most effective zarzuela which their had been forty four.
