Joaquim Manuel

Among the initial popular composers of Brazil in colonial instances, Joaquim Manuel was the first ever to have got lithographed 20 of his modinhas. These modinhas had been collected from the Austrian composer Sigismund Neukomm, who harmonized them and got them released in Paris in 1824. Even though so small about Manuel reached our times, he was extremely praised by accounts from the travelers Louis de Freycinet (who kept him as an improved guitarist compared to the Western types) and Adrien Balbi (“remarkably talented for music, famous for his ideal execution from the cavaquinho and writer of gorgeous modinhas”). Manuel was most likely created in Rio de Janeiro around 1780. He was recorded living in the town in 1822. He might have passed away in Rio de Janeiro around 1840.
