Given birth to in 1935 in Ohio, and most widely known for his rockin’ solitary “Doggonit,” Jimmy Spellman became a normal on the Az Hayride show from Phoenix within the mid-’50s, and played a central part within the development of this town’s nascent rockabilly nation picture, which also included Duane Eddy, Sanford Clark, and Loy Clingman, amongst others. He was the very first artist authorized to Lee Hazlewood’s then-fledgling Viv Information imprint in 1955, and dealing with a music group that included guitarist supreme Al Casey, he documented many top-notch rockabilly and nation gems, most of them compiled by Hazlewood, between 1955 and 1960 for Viv, in addition to for the Dot (the label that released “Doggonit”), Vik, Rev, and Redstart imprints. Although he by no means became children name, his documenting legacy gained him an area within the Rockabilly Hall of Popularity in 2004. Carry Family Information released Doggonit in 2011, which finally gathered most of Spellman’s Viv, Dot, Vik, Rev, and Redstart recordings alongside many previously unreleased songs from the period and six track demos (28 monitors in every) about the same disc.
