Jimmy Kennedy

Biography

Among the pre-eminent Uk lyricists from the mid-20th hundred years, Jimmy Kennedy was created July 20, 1902, in Omagh, North Ireland. Upon graduating from Dublin’s Trinity University, he embarked upon professions in teaching and civil assistance before posting his first structure, “The Barmaid’s Music,” in 1930. Collaborator Harry Castling quickly released him to music publisher Bert Feldman and later on that yr, Kennedy obtained his first strike with “Oh, Donna Clara.” “My Music Goes ‘Round the entire world,” “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” (which added fresh lyrics to John Bratton’s 1907 melody), and “Play if you ask me, Gypsy” followed, however when Feldman declined Kennedy’s “Isle of Capri” (created with Will Grosz), the songwriter jumped dispatch to become listed on publisher Peter Maurice, who managed to get a major strike in 1934. Around that same period, Kennedy began composing with Michael Carr, inaugurating probably the most fertile innovative collaboration of his profession. The duo’s five-year cooperation yielded some strikes, including “South from the Boundary,” “Hometown,” and “We’re Gonna GO OUT the Washing for the Siegfried Range,” furthermore to theatrical productions like 1936’s O-Kay for Sound, 1937’s London Rhapsody, and 1939’s THE TINY Dog Laughed. Aside from Carr, Kennedy also notched the favorite favorites “Crimson Sails within the Sunset,” “Serenade in the night time,” and “Harbor Lamps,” and upon revamping the lyrics to the original “The Cokey Cokey,” released a hugely well-known party dance. After offering in the English Army during Globe Battle II, he resumed his prolific musical creation with famous brands “An Apple Blossom Wedding ceremony,” “Apr in Portugal,” and “Instanbul (Not really Constantinople),” although from the past due ’50s the arrival of rock and roll & roll efficiently brought his hitmaking times to a finish. In 1960, Kennedy relocated to Switzerland, time for Ireland over ten years later on; there he collaborated with Stewart Parker for the musical Spokesong, his last main function. In 1984, the English Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Writers released its annual Jimmy Kennedy Honor; the lyricist passed away on Apr 6 of this year.
