Biography
The tenth musician to serve because the official Queen’s Piper at Britain’s Buckingham Palace, Pipe-Major Jim Motherwell was created in Scotland in 1961; after understanding how to play the bagpipes from his dad, he later joined up with the Territorial Military, enlisting with the very first Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1980. Injured within the line of responsibility while portion in North Ireland, Motherwell was still restricted to his medical center bed when in 1991 he was requested by Queen Elizabeth II to compose a bagpipe piece honoring the UK’s alliance with the united states through the Gulf Battle; not only do he perform “Desert Surprise” before then-President George Bush through the Queen’s stop by at America, however in 1998 Motherwell was chosen to carry the post of Queen’s Piper, a posture first developed by Queen Victoria in 1843.
