Jim Chapin

Drums. Drummer greatest knownn for his use Crimson Norvo in the ’40s, plus periods with Woody Herman and Tommy Dorsey in ’50s. Chapin start playing piano and clarinet as a kid, then left university at 18 to begin with playing skillfully on drums. He began with Norvo in 1943, carrying out a string of careers with various rings. Chapin’s group was a normal Monday night appeal at Birdland from ’54 to ’56. He afterwards used Marshall Offer in Florida from ’58 – ’60, and in addition became known for composing instructional reserve and doing partner record.
