Jesús Monasterio

Probably the most noted composition by Monasterio was “Adios a la Alhambra” for violin and piano which Meyerbeer lauded in 1862 after hearing its performance in Berlin. Monasterio was even more very important to his body organ playing and his advocacy of instrumental music in Spain than for his compositions. Though he published some religious items his functions for violin and chamber ensembles helped to pass on these styles throughout Spain. Monasterio was a kid prodigy and college student of Beriot who became an honorary violinist from the royal chapel and teacher from the violin in the Madrid Conservatory.
