Jens Winther

b. 29 Oct 1960, Næstved, Denmark. Trumpeter and composer Winther was still in his teenagers when he signed up for John Tchicai’s and Hugh Steinmetz’s ‘college’ of free of charge jazz and cultural music, the Cadentia Nova Danica big music group. In the 80s he became a member of Erling Kroner’s music group which performed a fusion of Argentinian tango and American jazz. Winther provides made frequent trips to NY, USA where he provides received encouragement from music artists including Bob Brookmeyer and in addition has sat along with regional groups. Winther is certainly thoroughly aware of all current varieties of dark American well-known music and will eschew so-called Scandinavian ‘coolness’. His lines are rhythmically interesting and he avoids melodic clichés by using unusual period leaps. He’s one amongst a small number of Danish jazz music artists who has documented his very own compositions using the Danish Radio Big Music group. Winther’s admiration for the audio of Chet Baker and Mls Davis is specially apparent within the broodingly desolate music in elements of The Planets.
