Jeff Cowell

A hard-living country-folk troubadour from Michigan’s Top Peninsula, Jeff Cowell spent his music youth (the 1970s and early ’80s) in the pubs, barns, and concert halls of Michigan and Northeastern Wisconsin, supplying up a distinctly North rendering from the outlaw nation sound, invoking brands like Townes Truck Zandt, Gram Parsons, and David Allan Coe. An associate from the regionally effective country-bluegrass/honky tonk club band THE FANTASTIC Northern Iron Music group, Cowell released Lucky Hits & Liquid Silver in 1975 — an evocative, high and lonesome single recording filled with north gothic-informed, fresh nihilism — that continued to be solidly in the grasp from the mitten condition before archivists on the Numero Group got their practical it and reissued it in early 2015.
