Jean-Michel Blais

Jean-Michel Blais is certainly a Canadian pianist whose primarily improvised function recalls composers such as for example Erik Satie and Maurice Ravel aswell as minimalists like Philip Cup. His functions are spontaneous and psychological rather than scientific and technically specific, and he frequently incorporates experimental creation methods into his recordings. Blais was raised in Quebec and began playing body organ and piano as a kid. He began schooling as a traditional pianist on the Trois-Rivieres Music Conservatory, but was interested in going after his own route. After hanging out in Berlin and SOUTH USA, where he sporadically produced music, he relocated to Montreal and started taking music-making significantly once again. Arts & Crafts released Blais’ debut recording II in 2016. This is accompanied by Cascades, a cooperation with CFCF, in 2017.
