Jean Caffeine

Jean Leider, aka Jean Caffeine, was created in NY to a health care provider father along with a article writer mom (Emily Leider, who pens Hollywood biographies). The family members moved everywhere several times before settling in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA when Jean is at second quality. As an adolescent, she discovered herself attracted to rock and roll & move after witnessing a Rolling Rocks concert in 1975 on the Cow Palace. Immediately after, she discovered drums and uncovered punk music, playing for an organization called the Desire. She discovered early motivation in punkers the Nuns (which highlighted Alejandro Escovedo). In 1980, Jean transferred to NEW YORK, hitting downtown in a musically fertile period on the pumps of punk. She began being a DJ at locations like Danceteria and Membership 57, then began drumming for an all-girl music group, Pulsallama, which highlighted Ann Magnuson, afterwards of Bongwater. Following a developing reputation because of their theatrical performances along with a tour in Britain starting for the Clash, Pulsallama found a finish. Subsequently, Jean spent a limited period in a music group called Clambake. For the reason that device, Caffeine was became a member of by Cathy Crane (the Foams), Liz Gall (Buffalo Gals), and long term Rolling Rock editor Holly George. Clambake released an Alex Chilton-mixed EP and known as it quits. Afterward, Caffeine discovered herself attracted to Austin, TX, where she got a rootsy path fronting Jean Caffeine’s All-Night Truckstop, a “garage area nation” combo that could play from Tammy Wynette towards the Rolling Rocks.
