Jazzmeia Horn

New York-based performer Jazzmeia Horn is definitely a gifted jazz vocalist with an inventive, scat-influenced design that helped her get the 2015 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition. Created in Dallas, Tx in 1991, Horn was raised in a innovative, spiritually minded family members and was initially introduced to performing by her grandmother, a gospel pianist with an abiding like of jazz. Although she sang from an early on age group, it wasn’t until her teenagers going to Dallas’ Booker T. Washington SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL for the Performing and Visible Arts that she created a pastime in jazz. Introduced to Sarah Vaughan by her structure class instructor, Horn fell deeply in love with Vaughan’s design and worked to understand her phrasing and inflection. Following that, she began hearing additional instrumentalists, including John Coltrane and Kilometers Davis. After senior high school, she honed her abilities their studies at Manhattan’s THE BRAND NEW College for Jazz and Modern Music.
