Colombian-born Jay Rodríguez (Hernan Ramiro Rodríguez Sierra) began playing music while attending primary school and it has been performing professionally since 8th grade. The talented musician examined clarinet with Paquito D’Rivera’s dad, Tito D’Rivera, and afterwards harmony on the Hight College of Performing Arts. After graduating from the Manhattan College of Music, Rodríguez became mixed up in exotic music field, teaming up with the renowned Eddie Palmieri and Ray Barretto, among various other prominent Latin performers. Nevertheless, New York’s environment transferred him to explore different noises, having the possibility to sign up for the acidity jazz clothing Groove Collective immediately after. In 2001, DJ and manufacturer Ron Trent teamed up with him to put together an experimental duo known as Batidos, issuing a full-length record entitled Olajope.
