Jay Gorney

b. Abraham Jacob Gornetzsky, 12 Dec 1894, Bialystok, Russia, d. 14 June 1990, NEW YORK, NY, USA. Along with his family members, Gorney relocated to the united states at age 10, settling in Detroit, Michigan. There he researched piano, and performed in a college orchestra, in pubs as well as for silent movies. After studying laws and music theory on the School of Michigan he briefly employed law, then considered music. From the first 20s his music appeared in displays and he was frequently in cooperation with lyricist E.Con. ‘Yip’ Harburg. For Dance Gal (1923) he constructed ‘I’ve Been LOOKING FORWARD TO You’, and he composed scores for top level Gap (1924), Merry-Go-Round (1927), The Sketch Reserve (1929) and Earl Carroll Vanities (1930). In 1932 Gorney constructed the rating of Americana, that emerged his and Harburg’s big strike, ‘Brother, IS IT POSSIBLE TO Extra A Dime?’. Gorney also proved helpful in movies, as composer, manufacturer and screenwriter, like the Fight Of Paris (1929, composing ‘What Makes My Baby Blue?’ and ‘When We Am Housekeeping For You’ with Dick Howard), Applause (1929, starring Morgan, that came ‘What Wouldn’t I REALLY DO For That Guy?’ with Harburg), Roadhouse Evenings (1930, starring Morgan and Jimmy Durante, ‘Just A Melody FOR THE Storage’ and ‘It Can’t CONTINUE Like This’, with Harburg), Jimmy And Sally (1933, ‘You’re My Thrill’, with Sidney Clare), OPERATE And Cheer! (1934, offering Shirley Temple and John Boles, ‘Baby, HAVE A Bow’, with Lew Dark brown), Maria Galante (1934, ‘Tune OF THE Dreamer’, with Jack port Yellen), and, as screenwriter, Moonlight And Pretzels (1933). In the theater was the revue, MEET UP WITH THE People (1939), which highlighted ‘The Superstars Remain’, ‘A Fellow And A Young lady’ and ‘The SAME EXACT South’, with lyricists Edward Eliscu and Henry Myers. Early 40s movies included The Temperature’s On (1943, with Mae Western world and William Gaxton), Hey, First year (1944, screenwriter), as well as the Homosexual Senorita (1945, manufacturer). He had written the rating for Heaven ON THE PLANET (1948, ‘Therefore Near YET So Significantly’), as well as the present Touch And Move (1949, ‘Desire Me Good fortune’ and ‘Crazy Old, Little Aged Globe’). Through the 50s and in to the early 60s, Gorney was a manufacturer and composer in tv. He and Harburg reunited for The Happiest Young lady In The Globe (1961), that Gorney modified music constructed originally by Jacques Offenbach. He’s the daddy of celebrity and dancer Karen Lynn Gorney.
