Jason Harrod began his folk music profession because the Southern fifty percent of the vocalist/songwriter duo Harrod & Funck. Harrod, who was simply raised in NEW YORK, began using Chicagoan Brian Funck while both had been college students at Wheaton University in Illinois. The unique mixture of their atmospheric classical guitar designs soon caught the eye of Christian folk story Mark Noticed, who created their 1992 debut Dreams of the colour Blind for his Heated Brick label. A calendar year afterwards, the duo transferred to Boston where they battled to carve a distinct segment for themselves within the competitive folk picture. They released two even more albums jointly: the eponymous 1997 sophomore work Harrod and Funck, along with a 1998 Live established. However when Funck still left for LA to pursue a profession being a film editor, Harrod released a solo profession that allowed him to enjoy his Southern and traditional folk affects more openly without abandoning the modern folk sound that characterized the Harrod & Funck albums. In Apr of 2000, Harrod gained first place within the bluegrass group of the esteemed Chris Austin Songwriting Competition. Widely reputed folksinger Gillian Welch, a prior contest champion, was one of the judges. Significantly less than a month afterwards, Harrod released his first single album, Surviving in Skin.
