Since Juan Atkins dubbed himself Model 500 within the mid-’80s, it is becoming somewhat of the custom for Detroit electro performers to shroud themselves in mystery, concealing in back of odd monikers and leaving listeners to think the alter ego. Add Japanese Telecom to the complicated roster of colorfully called Detroit electro performers, alongside Ectomorph, Cybotron, Dopplereffekt, AUX 88, Drexicya, Adult, and countless others. Japanese Telecom’s exclusive sound differs a little from these Detroit performers’ inclination to art dark, foreboding bits of analog-sounding cool beats using the brand techno synths. Rather, the artist playthings with pop-culture motifs making use of their recommendations to Japanese tradition and targets complex collages of quirky sounding beats. The root aura from the music isn’t dark but remarkably light, rendering it rather available. Much like J. Burger’s are the Modernist, Japanese Telecom targets an identical warm, friendly design with catchy hooks that contradicts the normally dark and hard tendencies from the genre. Japanese Telecom 1st surfaced in past due 1999 having a vinyl-only, self-titled launch around the Detroit upstart label Intuit-Solar. This same label after that released a 12″ of remixes from the Males from PACK (better referred to as I-F), John Selway, DJ Assault, and Perspects before eventually releasing both of these records as an individual compact disk in fall 2000.
