Blues and spirit vocalist Janiva Magness was zero stranger to difficulty and crisis growing up, with her ideal, she pours that duration of feeling into her passionate phrasing and vocal delivery. Blessed in Detroit, Magness was raised with her father’s blues and nation record collection, along with the city’s great Motown pop-soul audio, which designed her design and approach being a musician. She dropped both of her parents to suicide whilst in her early teenagers, and she finished up living over the roads, channeled through countless foster homes, before getting pregnant at age 17 and having to stop the kid for adoption.
