Janice Peters

Janice Peters played a little but fiery component in British rock and roll ‘n roll’s early background. A brunette using a beguiling smile, she was agreed upon to EMI’s Columbia label in 1958 and slice the Brenda Lee-styled “This Small Girl’s Eliminated Rockin’,” supported with the much less interesting “Kiss Cha Cha.” In 1959, she documented with Shadows co-founder and songwriter Iam Samwell, reducing Samwell’s “A WOMAN Likes,” a bit of high-energy rockabilly that nearly crossed over into Lene Lovich-style punk using its frantic pacing and Peters’ vocal acrobatics. Peters at her greatest was as well American to achieve England. She vanished from the documenting scene in early stages, leaving behind a small number of eminently listenable music.
