An excellent singer who spent an extended period from the picture, Janet Lawson is longer overdue for very much greater identification. She performed on the air and regional tv as a kid. In 1960, she transferred to NY where she caused Artwork Farmer, Ron Carter, Duke Pearson, Chick Corea, among others during the 10 years. Lawson appeared frequently on Steve Allen’s tv program (1968-1969), proved helpful in movie theater, and in 1976, produced a quintet. She documented two outstanding albums in 1980 and 1983 for Internal Town and Omnisound. Lawson (an inventive and expressive scat vocalist with an extremely wide variety) also made an appearance on information by Eddie Jefferson (1977) and David Lahm (1982). Her father’s long-term disease led to her departing music for a lot of the second fifty percent of the 1980s, but Janet Lawson spent some time working being a jazz educator and gigged over the East Coastline.
