Jan Swerts

Flemish composer/singer/songwriter Jan Swerts self-released his debut album Weg (Street) this year 2010 to substantial crucial acclaim in his house nation. His deeply melancholy, minimalist piano music, subtly framed by gorgeous string and woodwind plans, artfully combined the contemporary traditional noises of Sylvain Chauveau, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Maximum Richter using the confessional folk-pop songwriting of Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, using the occasionally heart-rending outcomes — entitled in Flemish, but sung completely in British — most highly recalling the task of Dakota Suite. His second recording, Anatomie vehicle de Melancholie (Anatomy of Melancholy), premiered in 2013 and presented much richer, more descriptive arrangements that sometimes ventured into jazz.
