b. 22 Apr 1948, Copenhagen, Denmark. Composer and pianist Kaspersen’s wry, quirky music reveal the affects of Thelonious Monk, Horace Metallic and Abdullah Ibrahim, who, beneath the name of Money Brand, played frequently on the jazzhouse Montmartre in Copenhagen 1963/4. All possess strong root base in Black cathedral music which may take into account Kaspersen’s attraction towards the funky areas of American jazz. Kaspersen’s structure and playing hardly ever descend to simple pastiche or antiquarian seriousness but screen some ironic humour that attracts both mind and foot. Kaspersen has created for the Danish Radio Big Music group, for theater, and performed with poets. He frequently records along with his own ensembles, huge or small.
