Jamison Ross

Florida-born drummer/vocalist Jamison Ross is usually a liquid percussionist and gospel-influenced singer, most widely known as the 2012 winner from the 25th annual Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Elevated in Jacksonville, Florida, Ross was raised performing in his grandfather’s chapel and started playing drums at age group three. By age 15, he had been leading the chapel music group as Minister of Music. Motivated by his mom to pursue music officially, Ross required drum lessons throughout primary school and went to high school in the exclusive Douglas Anderson College from the Arts. While there, Ross performed in the jazz music group and won best honors at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Jazz Music group Competition — an event captured in the 2007 documentary film Chops. After senior high school, Ross gained his B.A. in jazz research from Florida Condition University. Then relocated to New Orleans, where he furthered his education, generating his Master’s level from your University or college of New Orleans. Choosing to remain there, Ross discovered utilize a bevy of name performers, including vocalist Carmen Lundy, pianist Ramsey Lewis, gospel vocalist Byron Cage, yet others. In 2012, he earned the 25th annual Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, and garnered a documenting agreement with Concord Information. In 2015, Ross released his debut single record for Concord, the R&B- and gospel-infused Jamison.
