Pianist Adam Williams channeled the gospel and R&B affects of his youngsters to forge a soulful, deeply expressive method of modern jazz. A gifted soloist and accompanist, he was also a reputed manufacturer and educator. Blessed in Memphis on March 8, 1951, Williams started piano lessons at age group 13. A enthusiast of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Ramsey Lewis, he spent six years because the organist with Memphis’ Eastern Superstar Baptist Cathedral before learning music education at Memphis Condition School. After befriending fellow pianists Mulgrew Miller and Donald Dark brown, Williams changed his concentrate to jazz, sketching impact from Hank Jones, Ahmad Jamal, and regional star Phineas Newborn. At only 22 Williams became a member of the faculty of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, additionally support touring jazz dignitaries like Milt Jackson, Artwork Farmer, and Sonny Stitt in groupings led by colleague Alan Dawson. During his five years at Berklee, the pianist also created his compositional abilities, and in 1977 released his 1st LP being a head, the Zim label discharge Flying Shades. In 1987 Williams reunited with Blakey and bassist Ray Dark brown within the Magical Trio. Afterwards incarnations included drummers Elvin Jones and Jeff “Tain” W. He also founded his very own production company, Finas Sound, with Miller and Dark brown launched the Modern Piano Ensemble, an organization dedicated to protecting and marketing the music of Phineas Newborn. In 1999 William Paterson School called Williams its movie director of jazz research; he continued to be with the institution until he was identified as having the liver cancer tumor that stated his lifestyle on July 20, 2004.
