James Nyoraku Schlefer

Known as “A Master from the Shakuhachi” by the brand new York Times, James Nyoraku Schlefer is certainly a respected performer and teacher of shakuhachi in NEW YORK. He received the Jun-Shi-Han teaching permit from Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin in 1991 as well as the Shi-Han Master’s Certificate in 1996. In Japan he spent some time working with Aoki Reibo, Yokoyama Katsuya, Yoshio Kurahashi, and Mitsuhashi Kifu. Schlefer performs frequently in NEW YORK and other areas from the U.S., and offers appeared like a soloist in Japan, Canada, and France. His 1st solo album Blowing wind Center was aboard the Russian Space Train station MIR for over twelve months, while his second Compact disc Solstice Soul and his music had been presented on NPR’s WITH THAT SAID.
