James Ilgenfritz

Bassist and multi-instrumentalist Adam Ilgenfritz was created in Monroe, Michigan, November 16, 1978. Originally he was affected by non–musical performers as defeat poets William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, authors Herman Hesse, Franz Kafka, Ken Wilber and Thich Nhat Hanh, comic publication performers Matt Wagner and Frank Miller, visible performers Egon Schiele, Andrew Wyeth, Marcel Duchamp, and filmmakers David Lynch, John Waters, Stanley Kubrick. His educational encounters were as varied as his affects, including summer research in the Interlochen Middle for the Arts from 1992-1996, graduating from St. Mary Catholic Central SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in 1997, accompanied by a brief stint at Eastern Michigan University or college. He gained a B.A. in jazz and modern improvisation from your University or college of Michigan in 2002, where he analyzed with Ed Sarath, Steve Hurry, Diana Gannett, and Stuart Sankey. While still in Michigan he used many ensembles, most prominently Expenses Brovold’s Larval, and with saxophonist Dan Bennett. He relocated to NY State and searched for guidance over time from bassists Norm Damschroder, John Lindberg, Tag Helias, and Tag Dresser. A short stay in NORTH PARK from 2005-2006 noticed Ilgenfritz signed up for the Master’s efficiency program on the College or university of California/San Diego, functioning and studying particularly with bassist Dresser, aswell as cellist Charles Curtis, and Utmost/MSP originator Miller Puckette. Then relocated to Brooklyn, NY, and has discovered a home dealing with like minded improvisers Gary Lucas, Andrew D’Angelo, Chris Rate, Lukas Ligeti, Steve Swell, Michael Formanek, David Krakauer, Eyal Maoz and Tim Berne. A number of ensembles he qualified prospects or co-leads are the Anagram Outfit, Trio Caveat, Trichotomy, the Audio Infusion Innovative Music and Hypercolor. He’s also involved being a facilitator using the International Culture for Improvised Music, founded by Sarath and Sarah Weaver, focused on the advertising of imagination and improvisation across disciplines. He provides toured cross-country, in Canada, often in NEW YORK numerous ensembles, and in addition has recently turn into a conductor of Soundpainting, the multidisciplinary vocabulary for performing improvisation developed by Walter Thompson. He co-conducts and performs in Weave, a touring ensemble with trombonist and fellow sound painter Sarah Weaver.
