After Wynton Marsalis, no-one caused even more of an uproar than Adam Carter did when he appeared on the brand new York jazz scene from his native Detroit. Carter’s debut documenting, JC in the Established, released in Japan when he was just 23, and in the us a year afterwards in 1993, was universally acclaimed because the finest debut by way of a saxophonist in years. Critics lauded his capability to play in any jazz design without showing up to ape anyone. Carter, who started playing at 11 and analyzed with trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, was a prodigy. He performed and toured with Marsalis in 1986 at age 17 and joined up with Lester Bowie’s music group upon relocating to NY in 1988.
