An excellent drummer equally relaxed driving a large band or performing in little mainstream combos, Jake Hanna was a solid asset to some many sessions. He began playing locally in Boston and caused Toshiko Akiyoshi (1957), Maynard Ferguson (1958), because the home drummer at Storyville in Boston, with Marian McPartland (1959-1961), & most significantly using the Woody Herman Orchestra (1962-1964). Like a studio room musician, he was a normal person in the Merv Griffin tv program’s big music group (1964-1975), moving using the display to LA (1970) where he continued to be. Hanna co-led an organization with Carl Fontana that documented for Concord in 1975, used Supersax, and continued to seem on many mainstream and golf swing sessions, learning to be a fixture at jazz celebrations and celebrations. He documented many times (mostly like a sideman) for Concord. Jake Hanna passed away in LA on Feb 12, 2010; he was 78 yrs . old.
