Memphis gospel singer Jackie Johnson got her start singing backing vocals for such artists as the Staple Performers, Barbara Carr, Shirley Dark brown, Rufus Thomas, and Lenny Kravitz. Johnson’s 1998 debut record, Let Like Abide, struck a bargain between funky Southern spirit/gospel and simple, adult-contemporary-oriented R&B. A sophomore work Right here I Am implemented in fall 2000.
