Biography

Singer/guitarist Jack port Kelly was the frontman from the South Memphis Jug Music group, a favorite string music group whose music owed much debt towards the blues in addition to minstrel tracks, vaudeville amounts, reels and rags. Small is known from the hoarse-voiced Kelly’s roots; he led the group in tandem with fiddler Will Batts, plus they produced their initial recordings in 1933, implemented in 1939 by way of a second and last session. Even though South Memphis Jug Band’s lineup transformed frequently, Kelly continued to be a continuing, leading the group in a variety of incarnations until as past due as the middle-’50s; he passed away in Memphis in 1960.
