Getting their begin in Richmond, Virginia, J. Rawls started when guitarist John Majer and bassist Weber Grandish remaining their previous music group and started to focus on their fresh tunes with drummer Bryan Stiglich. After documenting a demonstration, the music group released the Slav EP on Iron Compass Information and started on the Midwest tour. Upon their come back, the band began writing fresh material and finally stepped back to the studio room to record Child Get Hip, that was released in 2002. Because of his help around the record, keyboardist Ben Catania became a member of the band following the recording and arrived on tour with them.
