Somewhat of the mystery body in jazz background, J.C. Moses was an extremely versatile (and for a while significantly in-demand) drummer who performed in settings which range from mainstream to free of charge jazz. Moses initial gained the interest from the jazz globe in the first 1960s, when he documented with Clifford Jordan, Kenny Dorham and quite notably Eric Dolphy. As an associate of the brand new York Modern Five — an organization that included Archie Shepp, John Tchicai and Don Cherry — Moses toured Scandinavia in 1963 and documented in Denmark. Back New York the next yr, Moses was with the brand new York Artwork Quartet (an organization that matched up Tchicai and Roswell Rudd), was with an early on edition of Charles Lloyd’s Quartet and spent 2 yrs (1965-67) with Rahsaan Roland Kirk. During this time period, Moses also caused Archie Shepp, Andrew Hill and Sam Streams. In 1969 Moses performed frequently in Copenhagen as the home drummer in the Montmartre Golf club, dealing with such players as Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon. Erratic wellness forced him to lessen on his actions in the first 1970s and he came back to Pittsburgh, where he sometimes used Nathan Davis and Eric Kloss before his early death. Moses by no means led his personal record date.
