J.C. Burris

Biography

The nephew of Sonny Terry, Johnny “J.C.” Burris was also a blues harmonica participant, though he didn’t record an excessive amount of. He is mentioned for his usage of African tempo bone fragments, two sticks performed like castanets that may be played from the harmonica. Burris do some carrying out in NY in the 1950s and done recording classes with Terry, Sticks McGhee, along with other performers on Folkways Information. By the end of the 10 years, he relocated to California, obtaining some function in folk night clubs in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA before a heart stroke in 1966 robbed him of his usage of his ideal side. Many years later on, he regained his flexibility on his correct part, and in 1973, he started performing again, documenting some single unaccompanied materials in 1975-1976 that shows up on Arhoolie’s Blues Teacher album. He continuing playing at colleges, clubs, and celebrations until his loss of life in 1988.
