Ivory Lee Semien

b. 13 Sept 1931, Washington, Louisiana, USA. Having performed music from his early years, Ivory Lee resolved in Houston in his teenagers and started to play in the blues night clubs in that town, making his 1st records like a vocalist in the first 50s. He became drummer with the fantastic slip guitarist Harding ‘Hop’ Wilson, plus they made several records collectively, some with Wilson as innovator, others – including his best-known track, ‘Rockin’ WITHIN THE Coconut Best’ – with Semien himself on vocals. In the first 60s, he began his personal record label, Ivory Information, whose best-known produces featured some wonderful blues by Wilson. He continued to be a dynamic musician in Houston, a minimum of on the semi-professional basis, although producing little effect outside that town.
