Ivan Lins

Renowned like a carioca songwriter, vocalist, and pianist, Ivan Lins documented many albums for EMI Brasil and Reprise, in addition to composing Brazilian standards. Created in 1945, Lins found popularity in Brazil in 1970 when Elis Regina documented his music “Magdalena” for popular. His world-wide debut, A Noite, made an appearance in 1979. Lins’ most well-known composition, “Like Dance” (“Lembrança”), continues to be documented by a large number of jazz performers, including Kenny Burrell, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, Tag Murphy, George Benson, Diane Schuur, and Wayne Blood Ulmer. Additional noted tunes by Lins (“The Isle,” “Comecar de Novo,” “Dona Palmeira,” “Nocturna”) have already been documented by performers including Airto Moreira, Herbie Mann, and Terence Blanchard.
