Itasca

Itasca may be the pseudonym of indie folk vocalist and songwriter Kayla Cohen, whose wispy tone of voice and guitar-picking design are similar to the gentler branch from the vocalist/songwriter period. She released a small number of cassettes and CD-Rs under her personal name in her house state of NY before relocating to LA and implementing the functionality alias. Her full-length Itasca debut, Sophistication Riders on the highway, was self-released in 2012. She implemented it using the home-recorded Unmoored with the Wind, that was released by Matt Mondanile’s New Pictures label in 2014. An eight-track instrumental cassette known as Ann’s Tradition made an appearance a year afterwards, this time around on Perfect Influx. Still led by tone of voice and classical guitar, Open to Possibility was her initial album to include a full music group. It appeared via Heaven of Bachelors in 2016.
