Biography

Lyricist and composer Irving Gordon wrote many popular music recorded by Perry Como, Patti Web page, Eddy Arnold, Bing Crosby, and Billie Vacation, but could very well be best-known because the writer of “Memorable,” originally recorded in 1931 by Nat “Ruler” Cole. Given birth to in Brooklyn in 1915, Gordon analyzed violin as a kid and began songwriting many years later on while working in a Catskills vacation resort. By the first ’30s, Gordon was composing lyrics for skill agency work by Irving Mills, with whom he co-wrote the lyrics to two 1930s Duke Ellington compositions: “Make sure you Forgive Me” and “Prelude to some Kiss.” Additional tunes by Gordon consist of “Delaware” “Rollin’ Rock,” “THERE IS NO Boat Just like a Rowboat,” “Mama From your Teach” “EXACTLY WHAT WILL I Inform My Heart?,” and “Me, Myself and I.” Within the mid-’40s, Gordon shifted to L.A., where he spent the others of his lifestyle. Irving Gordon surely got to visit a Grammy earning revival of his tune “Memorable” by Nat “Ruler” Cole’s girl Natalie just a couple years before his loss of life in Dec 1996.
