Iro Haarla

Finnish pianist, harpist, and composer Iro Haarla is usually a classically trained musician having a bent toward atmospheric contemporary innovative and chamber-style jazz. Given birth to in 1956, Haarla analyzed piano and structure at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy and was going toward a profession as concert pianist before conference drummer/bandleader Edward Vesala in 1978. Haarla place her solo profession on keep and embarked on an enchanting and creative collaboration with Vesala, whom she ultimately married. For just two years, Haarla collaborated with her spouse on organizing and developing his personal compositions especially along with his Audio & Fury outfit with which she documented many ECM albums. After Vesala’s loss of life from heart failing in 1999, Haarla embarked on the solo career, launching the record Penguin Beguine on Tum Information in 2005. She implemented up with the quintet record Northbound offering trumpeter Mathias Eick, saxophonist Trygve Seim, bassist Ulf Krokfors, and drummer Jon Christensen on ECM in 2006. This year 2010, she made an appearance in the trio record Heart of the Parrot with bassist Krokfors and saxophonist Rasmus Korsstrom. In 2011, Haarla came back to her ECM quintet for the record Vespers.
