Ingram Marshall

While composer Ingram Marshall’s first compositions were digital functions, he has increasingly written for live music artists, like the Kronos Quartet. Within the middle-’60s, he examined under Vladimir Ussachevsky, amongst others, whilst in another plan at Columbia. Marshall after that discovered from Morton Subotnick, initial (briefly) in Greenwich Community, after that at Cal Arts as his helper through the early ’70s. It had been while gaining his experts at Cal Arts that Marshall was initially subjected to Indonesian music, which then put into his research. While he combined his current musical passions in his very own work (composing pieces for consumer electronics and Balinese flute, for example), Marshall continuing to explore various other styles of structure aswell, as when he journeyed to Sweden within the middle-’70s on the Fulbright Fellowship to review text-sound structure. “Fog Tropes” (1982) may be the most widely known of his functions that integrate live (real-time) digital manipulation. In the mid-’80s on, Marshall provides written outfit music, definitely not with consumer electronics. His work with the Kronos Quartet contains “Voces Resonae” (1984) and, recently, “Fog Tropes II.” He also made up the orchestral, one-movement piece “Sinfonia ‘Dolce significantly Niente.'”
