Imitation Electric powered Piano may be the brainchild of Stereolab bassist/multi-instrumentalist Simon Johns, formed while an store for his unique spin on post-rock. Johns collaborated with like-minded music artists, including drummer Ashley Marlowe, bassist Andrew Blake, keyboardist Chris Blake, guitarist Paul Morgan, and trumpet participant Nick Wilson, on 2001’s self-titled debut EP and 2003’s full-length Trinity Neon, coming to an audio that combined ’60s fusion as well as the droning lounge-pop of Johns’ additional band. Johns came back with fresh vocalist Mary Hampton on Imitation Electric powered Piano’s second, even more song-oriented record, Blow It Up, Burn off It Down, Kick It ‘Til It Bleeds, which found its way to fall 2006.
