Ig Henneman Sextet

In Dec of 2010, the entire year marking her 65th birthday and 25th anniversary being a composer/bandleader, Dutch violist Ig Henneman assembled a sextet of improvising “kindred spirits” and embarked on the Western european tour. The group included four music artists with whom Henneman acquired worked over time — reedman Ab Baars (also Henneman’s hubby) on tenor saxophone, clarinet, and shakuhachi; bassist Wilbert de Joode, a veteran of fundamentally most of Henneman’s ensembles to time, and pianist Marilyn Lerner and clarinetist Lori Freedman, two Canadian music artists in the Queen Mab Trio, which Henneman acquired joined in the first 2000s — along with German trumpeter Axel Dörner, the group’s just member who acquired no previous executing/documenting history using the violist. A complete of 16 concerts had been presented, having a plan with pieces focused on artists who acquired inspired Henneman over time, including Thelonious Monk, Emily Dickinson, Jimmy Giuffre, Misha Mengelberg, and Morton Feldman. Towards the end from the tour, the sextet documented its debut record, Cut a Caper, on the Bimhuis in Amsterdam on Dec 19 and 20; the record premiered by Henneman and Baars’ Amsterdam-based Wig label in Apr 2011. In June of 2012 the sextet lay out on the tour of Canadian celebrations from Montreal to Vancouver; the tour instantly implemented a three-week Henneman and Baars residency on the Banff Arts Center in Banff, Alberta that started in late Might. New material have been made up by Henneman through the residency and premiered within the tour, which finished having a concert at Vancouver’s Ironworks location within the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Happy with the documenting that were manufactured from the display, Henneman determined that it had been worthy of launch, and Wig released the unedited documenting as the sextet’s second recording, Live @ the Ironworks Vancouver, in Sept of 2012.
