Ibeyi (pronounced ee-bey-ee) may be the Parisian music duo of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, who meld component of Afro-Cuban root base music and electro doom soul. Their name originates from the Yoruban vocabulary and means “twins.” Both were blessed in Cuba, and sing in both British and Yoruban. Their dad, the past due conguero Miguel “Anga” Diaz (Buena Vista Public Club), passed on while the females were still within their teenagers. Their mom Maya insisted which the set compose and perform. Both were within their early teenagers when they started to perform collectively around their community, and in Paris most importantly. In 2013, XL Recordings manager Richard Russell noticed a YouTube video from the set performing “Mama Says” and brought these to London. He authorized the duo and started generating their debut (and assisting from synths). In 2014 two singles, “Oya” and “River,” had been released and Ibeyi made an appearance on Later on…With Jools Holland on BBC 2 and released another video solitary for “Mama Says.” Their self-titled debut long-player was released on XL in Feb of 2015.
