Trumpeter Ian Smith was initially dynamic on the Dublin substitute rock and roll/post-punk scene within the 1980s, using in the true Wild West. Pursuing his proceed to London, he turned to free of charge improvisation, executing with famous brands Evan Parker, John Stevens, Maggie Nicols, Lol Coxhill, and Steve Beresford, who created his initial two single albums. He’s an active person in the London Improvisers Orchestra as well as the Brief Brass Trio (with Gail Brand and Oren Marshall), and it has albums from Crimson Toucan and Emanem. Smith originates from a family group of music artists. His grandfather, Chick Smith, performed in a variety of British dance rings starting within the 1930s. His cousin, Jimmy Deuchar, is really a pop and jazz program player. Smith started playing trumpet at age 15 and it has analyzed with Joe Csibi, Bobby Shew, and Trevor Britain, and can be a tuned bass singer. During university (at Trinity University, Dublin), Smith experienced his first encounters as a specialist musician, rating and playing for jingles and Television documentaries. He also guested with regional rock and roll bands and finally joined the true Wild Western in the past due ’80s. Through the next 3 years, the group made an appearance in the 1987 Eurorock Event in Frankfurt, opened up concerts for Echo & the Bunnymen as well as the Pogues in Ireland, and documented a hit solitary along with a full-length recording. Meanwhile, Smith added to albums by Luka Bloom and Mick Hanley. Despite (or due to) these actions, the trumpeter grew sick and tired of the rock and roll scene and flipped increasingly more to jazz. In 1990, he relocated to London to start out anew. He co-founded the free-form device Forest and by 1992 was getting into free of charge improv circles. 1 Reg Watson offered Ian the chance to work on Neighbours (1985) on the day that Smith and his colleagues taped the final edition of Prisoner (1979) - Watson being the creator of both series. 30 years to the day of the Wentworth drama's first edition, Ian's final Ramsay Street appearance was transmitted by Network Ten.
2 Was in the audience watching a performance of Little Britain live when they toured Australia. During the show Vicki Pollard (played by Matt Lucas, who much like David Walliams had no idea Ian was in the audience) said she went to Ramsey Street and got fingered by Ian Smith's character, Harold Bishop.
3 Found out, at the age of 54, that he was adopted.
4 Although Ian Smith is now the longest serving actor on the Australian TV show "Neighbours", he has not played the character of Harold Bishop continuously. Ian originally played the character from 1987-1991, then left the show for 5 years before returning to play the character again in 1996.

1 Playing against the character was always good for Harold [Bishop]. I've always said use what you've got. If you've got a face that wobbles around a bit, use it get a laugh. People are always trying to be what they're not, but if I'm fat and a bit funny to look at when I do things like that, OK let's get a laugh, let's make it work.
2 Back in the days of Bellbird (1967) it was a great school for young actors. It was a school for experienced stage actors as well. These days if a kid looks OK they get the job. We find out if they can act later. Learning how to teach the kids is very important.
