Biography

Best known because the leader from the Ian Campbell Folk Group, perhaps one of the most respected and popular serves from the 1960s Uk folk revival, Ian Campbell was created in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1933. He transferred to Birmingham, Britain while still in his teenagers, and founded the fledgling action in 1956 beneath the moniker the Clarion Skiffle Group. Switching towards the even more familiar nom de plume in 1958, the initial lineup comprised Campbell (electric guitar, vocals), his sister Lorna Campbell (vocals), Dave Philips (electric guitar), and Gordon McCulloch (banjo). McCulloch departed in 1959 and was changed by John Dunkerley (banjo, electric guitar, accordion), and in 1960 the music group was became a member of by fiddler Dave Swarbrick. Through the early ’60s, the group made an appearance on television applications just like the Hootenanny Display, Barn Dance, and Hullabaloo. Furthermore, they regularly performed to full homes in the Royal Albert Hall, as well as the Royal Event Hall in London, and in 1965, they truly became the very first non-U.S. group to record a Bob Dylan music; their cover edition of “THE CHANGING TIMES THEY’RE A-Changin'” reached the U.K. Best 50 in March 1965. The music group continuing to evolve over time, releasing albums, carrying out live, and adding and subtracting skilled music artists, including Brian Clark, Dave Pegg, and George W, well in to the past due ’70s before officially disbanding in 1978. Campbell continued to are an editor and tv presenter, and a community arts employee, but eventually came back to his original like, singing and carrying out. Campbell passed on on November 24, 2012 at age 79.
