Hymie Shertzer

b. Herman Schertzer, 2 Apr 1909, NEW YORK, NY, USA, d. 22 March 1977, NEW YORK, NY, USA. After playing alto saxophone in several bands around the brand new York region, Shertzer (whose family members name was Schertzer) became business lead alto for Benny Goodman. In 1938 he became a member of Tommy Dorsey, switching several times backwards and forwards between your two bands. Within the 40s he performed in the music group led by Bunny Berigan and in addition appeared on several record classes with such luminaries as Lionel Hampton and Billie Vacation. In the middle-40s he proceeded to go into studio function where he continued to be for another 30 years, producing numerous record classes with such performers as Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Shertzer was among the unsung heroes from the golf swing era, soloing just hardly ever, but his solid and skilful playing produced him probably one of the most sought-after business lead altos of his period.
