Hollis Gentry III

Saxophonist Hollis Gentry III was a star on the NORTH PARK jazz picture but remains to be frustratingly small known beyond the Southern California circuit. Blessed in Corpus Christi, TX, in 1954, Gentry was five yrs . old when his family members relocated to NORTH PARK. He began monitoring saxophone being a 4th grader with age group 15 co-founded the funk music group Power with classmate Nathan East, afterwards a leading jazz, R&B, and pop program bassist. After starting a 1972 time headlined by jazz large Cannonball Adderley, Power dissolved and Gentry spent a lot of the 10 years playing behind trumpeter Bruce Cameron. Upon gaining his master’s level from UC NORTH PARK in 1980, he co-founded the even jazz clothing Fattburger, exiting within the wake from the band’s 1985 debut, Original. Gentry next produced his own music group, Neon, before touring behind even jazz guitarist Larry Carlton and pianist David Benoit. In 2001, he released his lone single LP, For the Record, ahead of signing up for a reunited Fattburger with 2003’s Sizzlin’. A past due 2004 car crash still left Gentry with serious facial damage along with a shattered jaw, successfully ending his profession being a musician. He even so continued composing brand-new materials until his loss of life on Sept 5, 2006.
