HK 119

The project of Finnish performance artist Heidi Kilpeläinen, HK119 combines her love of sci-fi and electronic music right into a witty multimedia critique of consumerism, pop culture, politics, and individual nature. Kilpeläinen created her alter ego after becoming influenced by George Lucas’ pioneering film THX 1138, and started documenting music on an electronic 8-monitor and making video clips on her personal. Upon graduating from Central Saint Martins University of Artwork and Style in 2004 with an M.A. in artwork, she performed around London and released her music, which captured the hearing of Warp designer Leila Arab. Arab sent HK119’s music to Björk, which led to Kilpeläinen rating a cope with the One Small Indian label. Kilpeläinen’s debut solitary, “Pick out Me Up,” found its way to late 2005, using the full-length HK119 — which presented lots of the tracks she done for her level — showing up in 2006. On her behalf follow-up, 2008’s Fast, Cheap and Uncontrollable, HK119 caused Sheffield, England-based makers I Monster, who gave a far more polished, available spin to her lo-fi audio. The remix recording Fast and Inexpensive Mixes found its way to 2010. Kilpeläinen started focus on her third recording in 2012, collaborating with Fever Ray maker Christoffer Berg with an ambitious group of tracks inspired by dream, spirituality, and character. The outcomes, Imaginature, found its way to early 2013.
