High Inergy

This female quartet was found out by Gwen Gordy Fuqua while they performed within their native Pasadena, CA, throughout a Bicentennial show. The group was made up of lead vocalist Vernessa Mitchell, her sister Barbara Mitchell, Linda Howard, and Michelle Martin. (The Mitchell sisters had been performers, Howard and Martin experienced dance backgrounds.) Authorized by Motown in 1977, they instantly clicked on the pop and spirit charts using the sultry ballad “You Can’t Change Me Off (In the center of Turning Me On),” that was the cornerstone of of the debut recording, Turnin’ On (1977). But following the follow-up recording Steppin’ Out, (1978), Vernessa Mitchell remaining the group to focus on gospel music and Barbara required over lead performing chores on following albums. But after battling for quite some time without another main hit (as well as name acknowledgement), the group silently disbanded in 1983.
